Unfortunately, most people (even those that call themselves Christians) are unfamiliar with the Ten Commandments. You can find them in the bible in Exodus 20:3-17, but here is the shortened version:
1. You shall have no other Gods before Me.
2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness.
10. You shall not covet.
So what does each commandment mean in real life? Do they still apply to Christians today? Does God expect us to follow the Ten Commandments? Were they done away with when Jesus died on the cross? Were the Commandments only for the Jews?
Well, here are two websites that can answer all of those questions and more!
The first is from Amazing Facts Ministries and provides a lot of videos for those that don’t like to read.
The second site is definitely for those that enjoy reading! But, they also have links to some great video series (under their Prophecy tab). This site will answer all of your questions concerning the Ten Commandments.
For those that believe the Commandments were done away with, here are just a few of the verses in the New Testament that deal with the Ten Commandments (God’s moral law):
1 John 2:3: “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.”
1 John 2:4: “He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”
1 John 3:22: “And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.”
1 John 3:24: “Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him.”
1 John 5:2: “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, that we keep His commandments.”
1 John 5:3: “for this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.”
2 John 1:6: “This is love, that we walk according to His commandments.”
Revelation 12:17: “And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
Revelation 14:12: “Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.”
Revelation 22:14: “Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.”
There are a lot more in the Old and New Testaments! This is just a sample of what the bible says about the Ten Commandments. I encourage you to continue your study on this topic using the links provided above, but you can also go to our bible study page.
